tasting my words

It has been a long time since I tasted words before I said them. Words like

-
crystal
unfurling
awakening
tranquility

should be held, formed, shaped by the tongue and the lips before they are released.

I have begun to remember how to cherish words, to take time before I speak, to search through the different words in my vocabulary until I find exactly the right one. Why settle for anything less than the fullest expression of your intentions? Why say "opening" when you could call to mind images of banners and flags held aloft in the breeze by using words like unfurling? Why use "growing" when you have verbs like awakening right underneath your fingertips? Why would anyone settle for a bland "quiet" when you could have tranquility at your disposal?

The knowledge that what fills my head has the potential to occupy more space than what is outside it is

thrilling.

just some notes from a journal entry a few days ago!! What words are you loving lately?

  1. This is beautiful and eye-opening. Our thoughts have the potential to be so much when we use the perfect word. It makes me want to think more before I speak.
