[sunsets and afternoon strolls]

"Hello!"

It's what my younger cousin called to the birds, running forward to greet them, sending them flapping hurriedly into the trees for cover. "Hi!"
It's what I felt like saying all that afternoon, the frigid air down my neck, my face...shocked awake by the cold, the one sunshiney day...loving all of it. "Hi there, world! Wow."
We went walking at the conservation area, my grandparents and my cousin and I; took advantage of the one day it didn't snow - or rain! - and headed out to see the birds. If you held a bit of seed in your hand and stood still for even a few seconds, down they'd swoop, tiny claws just brushing your hand.

I dunno...maybe it's just me, but isn't there something special about having a bird - you know, those wild creatures that fly away whenever you come within ten feet of them - sitting in your hand? I just think it's the coolest thing ever. Unfortunately I didn't have the foresight to hold my camera in my OTHER hand to take pictures when the birds came. I think Nanny has some of those pictures on her camera.

And then there are the sunsets. My cousin lives out in the country, on this gorgeous farmland property - and lucky me! I got to spend the evening at their place. I suppose technically the sun sets the same way in the city as it does the country, but you can appreciate it so much better without all of the dingy tall buildings in the way.

It's also a perfect place for taking selfies. Usually I try to take pictures of myself in my bedroom. Which, um, isn't the prettiest background ever? And usually doesn't work that well. But anyhoo. I propped my camera up on an old bench and tried to look like I knew what I was doing. Not sure if I succeeded, but I like the silhouettes.

To finish things off, I leave you with my slightly awkward I-love-life-and-the-countryside-so-much-and-I'm-never-going-back-to-the-city-triumphant-awesomeness pose.

Yeah.

  1. Those pictures are awesome! <3 the sunset. And the epic poses are totally epic.
On top of that, you're a really good writer! I love the way you described everything.
That would be SO amazing to have a bird land in your hand like that. I've always wanted to experience it.

    1. Hi Kate! The sunset was seriously gorgeous - I wish I lived in the country! And yeah; I've been to the conservation area and had birds take food from my hand before, but the wonder never really goes away. :)

  2. Wow. Such lovely photographs. I love the snow-on-the-beach pics - that's not a sight we see too often here in Ireland!

    1. Thanks Hannah. :) I love walking on the beach in any season, but it is super cool when there's snow instead of sand. You don't get very much snow in Ireland, then?
