Happy Birthday Candles via http://www.duilleoga.com/:

I am growing quite fond of birthdays.

In the past, they were just another day to me - people sent you cards, your family gave you presents, and maybe there would be cake...! It was the celebration of the day that made it special, not the other way around. I don't know when, exactly, that started to change, couldn't pinpoint it, but I know that's not how I feel anymore.

There are so many ways to divide a year. There's the standard December to December, the change from '15 to '16, or '16 to '17, or the September to September calendar, if you're in elementary or high school, counting the days until summer. And then there are birthdays. May 06 to May 06, one whole year uniquely mine, and I'm just starting to appreciate it. This past year, my 19th, was the best of my life.

I learned a lot this year, made a lot of new friends, and wrote a book. I traveled across the world, flew in an airplane for the first time, and was chased and then caught a hundred different times by the crazy, crazy love of God.

It's been a good year... and here's to another.

do you love birthdays?? Have you had one yet this year, or are you still looking forward?

with love,
Olivia

p.s. editing post #3 (about taking time off) coming up this week!

  5. Ah, happy birthday!! I hope your next year is everything you want it to be, and even more incredible than the last. :)

I think I still have a child-like fascination with birthdays - I count my years from them, secretly look forward to them, and then feel overwhelmed with the fact that I'm getting older... :O

    1. Abbiee, one of these days you are going to burst my heart open, in the least metaphorical way possible... and then I'll have to blog from the hospital and WHERE WILL WE ALL BE IF THAT HAPPENS?!? I ask you.

That being said, this comment makes my heart overflow in a very metaphorical and healthy way, as your comments ALWAYS DO!!

(And there was pie, actually, instead of cake! Because pie crust obvi)

  8. Happy Birthday!!! Birthdays sometimes feel weird to me because getting older always makes me feels weird and kinda sad. I turned 18 about a month ago, and it felt really weird. Like here I am, supposedly an adult, but I was not feeling it. But then I got to go hang out with other 18 year olds and I kinda went on an independent trip for a week so I felt older and more arrived (we'll see how long that lasts) :D Have a great year! (Personally, I like odd numbers better :) )
