Christmas reading list

Now that's it's - finally! - December, I have no qualms whatsoever about doing a Christmas post. Even if it is only the fourth.

Something I try to do every year is set up a reading list for myself...I'll dig up all my old Christmas favourites and curl up on the couch for a few hours. This year I decided to change it up a little bit and find some new books, too. Here's my December reading list (in no particular order)

 

The Christmas Box by Richard Paul Evans

 

I did a search at our local library, and this was one of the first Christmas books to come up. I haven't read it yet, but the back cover sounded interesting (and it's apparently a "Christmas classic") so I'm planning to give it a try.

 

 

 

Dancing Through the Snow by Jean Little

 

This book is an old favourite - I don't know how many times

I've read it, maybe six or seven. It's the story of an orphan named

"litter-bin" Min, and how she's been shuffled from foster family

to family, never really belonging anywhere. Right before Christmas,

she ends up at the house of a friendly doctor, and things start to look

up; maybe this Christmas, she'll find somewhere to call home?

 

 

 

 

The Long Winter by Laura Ingalls Wilder

 

Another old favourite! I know technically this isn't a Christmas book, but it's winter and snow and that's kinda the same thing. My copy of this book is yellowing and the pages are soft from use...I got it as a hand-me-down from someone...maybe at a yard sale? Or from one of my aunts, I can't really remember.

 

 

Christmas in Mitford Gift Set by Jan Karon

 

Shortly after I fell in love with Jan Karon's Mitford series, I discovered her two Christmas novellas in my basement. I've been saving them for Christmas break - two light, easy reads that will be my Christmas present to myself. I can't wait.

 

 

Shepherds Abiding, also by Karon

 

What can I say? You can't have too much of a good thing. This Christmas book is the eighth in her Mitford series, while the other two are Christmas specials...

You should read them. Go spend some time in Mitford, it's good for the soul.

 

 

A Highland Christmas by M.C. Beaton

 

I see her name alllll the time when I'm shelving at the library, and I've seen one episode of the Hamish Macbeth tv show...that's good enough reason to read a novel, right? Right.

 

 

 

 

This post was originally going to be a "top ten Christmas books" list, but I got to number six and realized I didn't have anymore. Hm.
