unofficial best book award // tag

Books + tags?? Only my most favourite thing ever! Thanks to Olivia from summer of 1999 for tagging me! (she is awesome, AND we have the same name, so we possibly might be long-lost twins separated at birth?? not sure.)

RULES AND BORING STUFF:

steal the tag.
fill in the tag.
tag people to steal the tag
be happy and have fun!!

(the last one isn't really a rule. more of a guideline/suggestion.)

this is me and my favourite of all books.
Best Male Character
Prince Caspian from the Chronicles of Narnia, who I swore at age 7 that I would one day marry. Also Calvin O'Keefe from A Wrinkle in Time, who was both athletic AND a red-head (this was a win/win
for my 12 year old self. also my 18 year old self, but whatever.)
This was more of a "favourite male character," to be honest, because I didn't actually consider whether or not Caspian is the BEST male character. I like Edmund quite a lot, too. (did you really think my second choice would be anything but Narnia? if so, you were sadly mistaken.)

Best Female Character
Min from Dancing Through the Snow. I love how she was so strong without being permanently hard and closed off... I love how she knows what she wants and how much she grows over the course of the book.
Runners up: Laura Ingalls, Lizzie Bennet, Hermione Granger, Meg Murray, and of course Lucy Pevensie. Lucy and Min are pretty much a tie for me, but I chose a Narnian character for Best Male character, so I thought I'd better back off just a tad.

Best Protagonist (good guy/main character)
I think Sherlock Holmes. I just want to crawl inside his head and know all the things that he knows! He's so cool. And after all, "brainy is the new sexy."
(quote from the BBC Sherlock tv show. I couldn't resist.)

Best Antagonist (bad guy/opposing party to main character)
General Woundwort from Watership Down. The thought of him still makes me a little nervous (in the most bookishly delicious way possible)

Best Plot Development or Twist
(this was supposed to be two different questions, but I got stuck so I'm making it into one.)
This is obviously going to be a spoiler alert, but since both the books and movies have been out for some time I feel pretty safe.... I thought Snape's character change in the last Harry Potter book was the craziest thing EVER - in the best possible way!

Book You Threw Across The Room Hardest (in either a bad or good way)
The Book Thief. And that's all I'm going to say. I still don't like talking about it.

Best Romance
Oh, dear. Pride and Prejudice? Or These Happy Golden Years (which is always and forever my favourite Little House on the Prairie book)
note: I was almost done this post and suddenly thought of two more! where is my head? Mara, Daughter of the Nile, + Seven Daughters and Seven Sons. Love both of those books.

Best Action
I don't really read action...
Like, I don't remember the last time I read an action book?? Do the Hunger Games count? Or Divergent? Because I loved both of those... help! Suddenly I forget how to genre!

Best Other Book
This is frustratingly unspecific. Maybe Scarlet Feather, by Maeve Binchy! I haven't read it in ages but I remember loving it to bits the last time I did. The characters are so loveable and the little town in Ireland is so perfect...

Best Book That Made You Change the Way You Think
The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. Or Prince Caspian. Both of those books are so meaningful to me and every time I read them I find something new that just blows my mind.

Best Inspiring Book
The Chronicles of Narnia. (I did really well not mentioning them earlier, so now you're getting the pent-up emotion and feels because I really do love these books.)

Best Book That Made You Learn Something New
Meep. I'm struggling with these questions. Why is it that I read like a maniac and then sit down to talk about books and can't remember anything? Is it just me or does this happen to other people?

Best Sad Book
It wasn't even that sad, but the only book that ever made me cry (just a little) was Second Chance Summer, by Morgan Matson.

Best Funny Book
I was hoping that an answer to this question would suddenly occur to me. Unfortunately, I got nothing. Calvin and Hobbes is always good. I feel like there's a hilarious book lurking just at the edges of my mind but I CANNOT REMEMBER. How unfortunate.

I tag:
Abbey Noelle from Miss Abbey Noelle
Erin from Acoustic Erin
Serena from Poetree
and you!! tell me what your best books are!!

xx

  2. OLIVIAAA YAYAYAY YOU DID THE TAAAG. ♥ I'm so happy right now all my favorite peeps are doing this and it's sooo much fun to read all of your awards gah. OKAY I LOVE THAT PICTURE AND THIS: "Prince Caspian from the Chronicles of Narnia, who I swore at age 7 that I would one day marry." YOU ARE AWESOME. And I absolutely do not blame you for making this oath (especially if he looks anything like Ben Barnes. ♥) "(did you really think my second choice would be anything but Narnia? if so, you were sadly mistaken.)" DUDE YES I LOVE YOU. ahaha omw. NARNIA FOREVS.

AHAHAH, "brainy is the new sexy." I love that. xD DUDE WHY DOES EVERYONE THROW THE BOOK THIEF ACROSS THE ROOM? I'm kind of intrigued now, gotta be honest...like, should I read it or will I be SCARRED FOREVER?? halp. "I don't really read action..." MY DILEMMA EXACTLY. Which is kind of strange because I love writing action sequences (something so satisfying and YUMMY about beating up your characters MAUAUAHAHA) but I just don't usually gravitate towards action in someone else's book. And then when I do read action I'm just like, HA I COULDA WRITTEN DIS SOOO MUCH BETTER YO. ahem.

"Is it just me or does this happen to other people?" um. I think I kind of have the exact opposite problem. xD I don't read hardly ever, but then I can sit down and rant endlessly about a book I read. once. five years ago. XD IT'S WEIRD.

okay i'm done. *HUGGLES* I love the tag, girl! You rocked itttt. #FORNARNIA

    love,
    abbiee

    2. ABBIEE YAY YES I DID AND IT WAS SUPER FUN

Also, it makes me eternally happy that you love Narnia, too! *I'm not the only one* And I know I said that 7-year-old me made that promise to marry Caspian, which is 100% true, but let's be real it's not like anything's changed now that I'm 18. :p #stillhoping.

DO NOT LISTEN TO OLIVIA THE SCARS ARE NOT WORTH READING THE BOOK THIEF. NOTHING IS WORTH IT. (although I guess it's only fair to say that my sister read it this year for school and liked it. she's crazy and I don't know where she came from.)

I don't write action often, but you're right!! It's way more fun to write than it is to read! Try to figure that one out, amirite??

I love your comments!!! reading them makes my day like 4x over.

  3. Thanks for the tag! I love The Chronicles of Narnia, and when I was younger I swore to marry Prince Rillian from The Silver Chair. Right now I'm reading Minding Frankie by Maeve Binchy, and so far it's pretty good!

  4. Hey thanks for the tag, Olivia! I'm excited to do it. And your answers are so cute and funny. (For that one about which book taught you something new, you could have just pulled out a cookbook. *shrug* Not a terribly profound response, but a response nonetheless.)
