heartbeat

I never really thought I'd have an epiphany on the soccer field.

(unrelated picture of a butterfly, photo courtesy of my mom)

Usually I have those lightbulb moments when I'm daydreaming. The epiphany spark seems to fly best in my lazy moments, which is why I was so surprised to find one hovering in the corner of my mind during a soccer game.

It was during the second half of the game -- I'd done a lot of running and bent over to catch my breath, resting my hands on my knees. As I did so a very peculiar sensation came over me;

I could feel my heartbeat in my legs.

I could actually feel the blood pumping through my thighs as I caught my breath. I've been playing soccer for a long time and this has never happened to me before. As if that feeling alone weren't cool enough, I had the epiphany, too.

What if God is like your heartbeat?

Like the pulse in my legs, you can feel Him working all through you - but only if you go looking for Him. You've got to work for it. If you never read your Bible, never pray, never communicate with God or attempt to have a relationship with Him, you won't feel near to Him. If you're not running and working hard, you can't feel that heartbeat all through your body.

If you just sit around (like I'm doing now, typing up this post) you can't feel that pulse pounding in your ears. Your legs won't throb with the beat of your heart, because it's not that simple.

You've got to work for it.

God's always going to be there, even if you can't feel Him. Just because you can't hear your heartbeat pounding in your ears doesn't mean it isn't there.

Matthew 7:7-8

"Ask and it shall be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened."

I'm headed off to one of my favourite places on earth tomorrow morning; off to visit family (and get lots of beach time in there too, hopefully) bright and early. I'll take lots of pictures and do a post sometime next week. Make y'all jealous. ;-)

Have a good weekend, guys! (I apologize for the abrupt ending to this post; it's after 11 at night and I'm exhausted.)
